RANDOLPH, NJ- Randolph Rotary Club and Research Down Syndrome Foundation proudly present their first annual Light the Path 5k Run/Walk.  The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Randolph High School, 511 Millbrook Avenue, Randolph, NJ.

T-shirt pick-up and race day registration will take place from 8:45 to 9:45 in the Randolph High School Commons.  Race applications are also available at Runner’s Haven, 477 Rt. 10 in Randolph.  Results will be tabulated by Pretzel City Sports.

The course is a USATF sanctioned and certified 5K Run on a fast start, rolling course, 70% roads, 30% on the beautiful Randolph Trails.   All are welcome whether racing competitively or walking.  Due to safety considerations no pets or strollers are allowed.  Early registrants receive a free T-shirt and goodie bag.  Late registrants receive a T-shirt and goodie bag while supplies last.  Water and rest room facilities are available at check-in.   Awards to male and female winners and runners up plus Top 3 males and females in following age ranges: 18 and under; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60+.   Early registration, before November 1st, is $20.  After Nov. 1,  $25, Students $15.

“We are expecting over 100 runners this year with the expectation for it to grow from year to year” says Beth McKenna, Rotarian of the year 2014 and chairman of the run.  “We will have refreshments after the race and also music by DJ Anton Joseph!  Randolph Pain Relief and Wellness Center will help with yoga stretches before the race and have a massage station in the High School Commons after the race for our tired runners.  We will also have food, vendor booths including innovative sneaker lace sensation U-Lace (also available in our goodie bags), Randolph’s own Runner’s Haven will be on hand to help support the run…it will be a fun day for all!”

“Randolph YMCA and Merrill Lynch are the premier sponsors of the race this year.  It gives us such pleasure to partner with the Y” says Valerie Kilburn, past Randolph Rotary President and co-chair of the run. “We appreciate how supportive the Y was to Randolph citizens during Hurricane Sandy!”

Runners can choose to support Randolph Rotary Club or Research Down Syndrome Foundation when they register. RDS’ mission is to fund and support scientific research directed toward the development of safe and effective drug therapies that will improve learning, memory and cognition in individuals with Down syndrome and address increased likelihood of Alzheimer’s Disease in persons with Downs syndrome.

Randolph Rotary will use its share of the proceeds to fund the Rotary scholarship program at Randolph High School. For the last several years, the Randolph Rotary has offered a scholarship to a special needs student as well as general education scholarships.  Rotarians strive to make their community a better place through sponsoring events including Country Fair and living their motto, Service Above Self.
