SUSAN WEILAND
Director of Community Affairs
Susan Weiland is the heart of SMILE and the steady force behind its compassion. Her journey began in the nonprofit community as a Direct Support Professional, where her warmth, strength, and fierce sense of purpose quickly set her apart. What began as a job became a calling to build lives of independence, dignity, and joy for people with developmental disabilities.
Over the years, Susan has served as a Residential Manager, Senior Coordinator of Recreation, Special Olympics Coach, Administrative Assistant, and Support Coordinator. Every role has deepened her understanding of the people she serves and strengthened her belief that care is not a service, but a relationship built on trust and respect.
Susan earned her dual bachelor degree in Elementary and Special Education from East Stroudsburg University. Her approach blends the structure of a teacher with the heart of a lifelong advocate. Within SMILE, she is known for her calm leadership, her laughter in the toughest moments, and her relentless pursuit of what is right.
Susan is more than the Director of Community Affairs — she is the soul of this mission. Her hands have helped shape homes, her vision continues to shape futures, and her heart reminds everyone why SMILE exists.
